Thick smoke inside cabin forced 767 to land

A Shanghai Airlines flight from Shanghai to Hong Kong had to make an emergency landing after thick smoke spread inside the cabin.

The 767 had left Pudong International Airport on Monday at 11:30 am with more than 100 passengers.

A passenger on board said smoke started appearing from the front section of the cabin after the plane encountered turbulence.

The cabin crew provided wet towels to the passengers and the oxygen masks were activated.

An airline spokesperson said that the smoke was caused by a malfunction in the air conditioning system.
